Q & A Page:

I get a lot of emails from students asking about my work. These will be added to this page along with my answers.

2nd March 2011. Over the past few months we have been fighting a huge 25% increase on the rent for our gallery. Although the rent has now been settled in our favour it has made us look at how we see our business working in the coming years. We have decided to sell the lease on our gallery and move our base of operations to our studios on the outskirts of town, so I can concentrate on my painting and Wendy can develop her framing and the web side of the business. I will be continuing to sell my work on this site and over the next couple of months I will be approaching other galleries to sell my work. Watch this space!

20th October. We have Just invested in our own framing equipment and have hired the studio next to mine. We should be making our own frames by the end of the month. We are also going to try styrene sheets instead of glass. This will mean that we will be able to post framed items at last! If all goes well we will have a selection of small framed prints ready to send before Christmas.

Sept 2010. For the past couple of months I have been working hard towards the 'Small Pictures' exhibition. I also finally had a steroid injection in my right shoulder to ease the pain. It seems to have worked so I am frantically carving linocuts while it's still good. ( I know this is a bad idea but I'm doing it anyway!) I should have 3 or 4 linos for the exhibition as well as a selection of my other styles.  If me and Wendy don't produce enough work for the expo we might run it as an online only exhibition.

24th August 2010. I took my kids surfing at Porth Curno while I went sketching. While I was looking out to sea I saw what looked like a man in difficulty, so I alerted the life guards. Unfortunately they didn't get to him in time and he didn't make it. A horrible tragedy which me and my children will never forget.

Over most of the summer I have been concentrating on keeping the walls of the gallery nice and full! I've also been working on a series of small studies. Me and Wendy are hoping to hold a joint exhibition of small, affordable pictures in the gallery starting on or around Dec 10th. More information will follow.

17th Feb. Me and my family have recently moved to the village of Nancledra near St. Ives. It's so wonderfully quiet and a short bike ride to my workshop in Towednack. No doubt it will affect my art, it will be interesting to see how! I walked to the gallery today - about 4 miles. I won't be doing that every day!

3rd Jan 2010 - Happy New Year to all friends and customers!

After being asked countless times over the Christmas period if I am going to produce any more 'Skiff' pictures I have decided to relent! I'm planning on working on a couple of skiffs and possibly a small to middle sized linocut. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for any of these pictures please email the gallery. sebwest@tiscali.co.uk

All has been quiet on the West-ern front! For the last couple of months I have been working on a large linocut of Barnoon. I'm extremely pleased with the piece but also relieved it's finished!

23rd September - For the past couple of weeks I have been working on a set of Nebuloids, only to discover half way through that I had forgotten  to take the protective film off the perspex on the two biggest ones!

Thurs 13th August - My God, the sun came out!

So I went to Man's Head, near Porthmeor and started a painted study.

Wed 5th August  -  This week I  'ave mostly been painting outline pictures

7th July - we just bought our own large format printer so we can produce our own small prints. This means we will be able to add new ones whenever we want. We should have a new range of £10 prints in the next couple of weeks!

From 22nd June to 3rd July I worked with a  work placement student: Adam from Chelmsford.

On tues 30th June I stayed up all night making this bloody web page!

On Sat 27th June 2009 I gave a brief talk to students from Gloucester in my gallery.

I really struggle just talking about myself. I much prefer being asked questions!

I am currently working on my biggest ever linocut. Don't hold your breath though. This piece could well take over a year to complete!

On 5th June 2009 I helped out at St. Ives Junior School
